If individuals and companies are to have confidence in online trading it must be seen to be secure.
Encryption, using a public/private key pair, which will be explained later, provides this confidence by:
- identifying senders - your private key uniquely identifies you
- authenticating message content - your public key verifies the data hasn't been tampered with in transit
- preventing denial of ownership - the key pair is registered to yourself
- protecting privacy - messages can't be read by third parties.
