Current Windows OS Versions
The following table shows a list of operating systems supported by Microsoft. This list is not exhaustive, there other versions of Windows, however, these are the ones that you are likely to encounter in a technical role.

| Windows NT | Developed alongside Windows 98 but was designed primarily for business use. For additional security, software could not access the hardware components directly. Server versions were also available. |
| Windows 2000 | A replacement for Windows NT with added features including the ability to access multimedia hardware. Server versions were also available. |
| Windows XP | A replacement for Windows 98, Me and 2000 Professional. Two versions are available: home and professional. The professional version has more security features and the ability to join a domain. |
| Windows 2003 | A replacement for the Windows 2000 server versions. |
| Server 2003 | A replacement for the Windows 2000 server versions. |
| Windows CE | An operating system for palmtops and other hand-held computing devices. |
| Windows Vista | The replacement for XP that is more robust, reliable, better security, increased performance, and more manageable. (Formerly known as LongHorn) |
| Server 2008 | The replacement for Server 2003 with more services and built in support for TCP/IP (IPng). |
