Command Line Interface Functions and OS Utilities

The section will look at the command line interface functions and operating system utilities with the emphasis on using these tools to optimise and aid in fault-finding and troubleshooting.

Common command line functions used to troubleshoot a computer include CMD, DIR, ATTRIB, FORMAT, IPCONFIG and PING

We will also look at Windows utility programs for two key areas:

  • Disk management - examples of these are defrag and ntbackbup
  • System Management - examples of these are msconfig, cmd, event viewer, system restore and remote desktop
