Protection of the Environment Act
The Protection of the Environment Act 2004 is also known by the title Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
This act operates in a similar way to the Freedom of Information act 2000 (FOIA). It stipulates the right of access to information on the environment held by the UK Government and other public sector bodies. The act became law on the 1st January 2005. The regulations within were drawn up by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs using the authority of the European Communities Act 1972.
