Accessing Shadow Copies
Before users can access shadow copies of shared folders from their workstations, they must have client software installed on their computers. You can find this software on a Windows Server 2003 computer in the %systemroot%\system32\clients\twclient folder. For the x86 platform (Intel-compatible 32-bit CPUs), double-click the twcli32.msi file to install the Previous Versions Client program.
After you install the Previous Versions software, when a user selects a data file that has one or more shadow copies available, the View Previous Versions option will appear in the File and Folder task pane in Windows Explorer and My Computer. A Previous Versions tab is also available when a user views the Properties sheet for a data file that has one or more shadow copies.
The Previous Versions Client software can only be installed on Windows XP or later operating systems. Computers running Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows 98 are also supported for retrieving previous versions of folders and files from a shared network folder stored on a Windows Server 2003 computer where shadow copies have been set up.
You must download and install the Shadow Copy Client software at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/downloads/shadowcopyclient.mspx.
Windows 2000 SP3 computers and Windows 98 computers must have the Shadow
Copy Client software installed on the Windows Server 2003 computer where the shadow copies are stored as well as have this software installed on the workstations.
