Job Functions

There is a wide range of different job function in IT, to the extent that it can sometimes be confusing trying to determine what exactly a specific title means.

It's fairly obvious that a Computer Programmer writes programs, a Systems Analyst analyses (and designs) systems and a Network Technician maintains networks, but what's the difference between a Programmer, a Software Developer and a Software Engineer? Are a Network Manager, a Network Administrator and a Network Engineer the same or different? In practice, it's often much more useful to see a list of the specific duties involved, rather than simply a job title.

ESkills offers a useful list of IT Job Roles, with specific information on the following and the promise of more to follow: Business Analyst, CAD/CAM Programmer/Trainer, E-Learning Developer, Graphic Designer, Helpdesk, IT Trainer, Multimedia Specialist, Service Technician, Software Developer, Systems Architect, Technical Author and Web Designer.
