UPPER and LOWER Expanded

The UPPER and LOWER functions do not change the data in the database. The characters are only converted temporarily during the execution of the SQL command.

These functions can also be used while displaying data from the database. For example:

SELECT UPPER(title), UPPER(surname), forename

FROM employee;

could return:

UPPER(title) UPPER(surname) Forename
MR WONG Lee
MISS JOHNSTON Wendy
DR WLODARSKI Boris
MRS MCUTCHEONS Jennifer

Again, it should be noted that the actual data in the database is not changed.
