Browser settings
All current browsers support a range of security options that can be used to help prevent privacy intrusions and make online transactions safer. These options usually include
Content Settings
These usually include the ability to filter websites by ratings and the ability to block popup windows. You can also decide to block scripting and embedded applications such as Java applets and Active X controls.
Privacy Settings
There a number of ways of protecting your privacy including cookie options and private data options. Two examples include the ability to clear all private data when exiting a browser and the ability to prevent the browser from storing passwords.
Security Settings
Most browsers allow you to alter the security settings for sites from different zones and allow you to decide upon encryption and certificate options.
Advanced Settings
Additional security settings are usually available under an advanced settings tab. The options available vary between browsers and even versions of the same browser.
