Questions and Answers
Why has SQA introduced this service?
Since 2006 we have held exhibitions to promote artwork produced by students completing Art and Design National Courses. We now have a substantial collection of artworks that other organisations can borrow to continue the promotion of creative Scottish talent and provide a practical teaching resource. We intend to add new artworks to the online collection each year.
Are all the exhibits framed?
No, a number of pieces are mounted on foamex board. The online system indicates whether an exhibit is framed or mounted.
Are all exhibits original work?
The vast majority of the collection is original pieces. However, a few high quality prints are included.
We are not a public sector organisation, can we still borrow exhibits from the collection?
Send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
with information about your company and the purpose of the loan. If we do agree to loan you exhibits, you will be subject to the same Terms and Conditions and costs as public sector organisations.
Is it possible to keep exhibits for longer than six months?
Speak to us about why you need a longer loan period and we will consider this. Certain exhibits are in popular demand and we want to ensure they are seen by as many people as possible.
How long does it take from requesting exhibits to receiving them?
Realistically, you can expect to wait about four weeks for the artwork to be ready and you should factor this into your planning arrangements. Once you have selected your exhibits, we will contact you to discuss delivery options and costs. You will also require to sign a Lending Agreement before exhibits are released. The general Terms and Conditions we expect you to undertake are shown on the Art Online website.
Is it possible to waive costs for my organisation?
SQA has introduced Art Online to help promote and showcase Scottish creative talent to a wide audience. We make no income from the service. However, where there are costs in transporting exhibits to and from your organisation, these are your responsibility. You will also be responsible for ensuring that exhibits are not damaged while in your possession. Payment for damages will be your responsibility.
Can I pick up exhibits direct from SQA?
Yes, we are happy to discuss this option. All exhibits are supplied in special packing boxes and you need to ensure your vehicle can accommodate them. The SQA Art Collection is stored in Newtongrange, Midlothian and will have to be picked up and returned to this location. It is not possible to move exhibits to other SQA locations for collection.
I want to borrow items, what are the next steps?
The loan system is only available online and the ordering system has been designed to be simple to operate. Go to www.sqa.org.uk/artonline and select your exhibits. Once you have clicked ‘place order’ we will contact you to discuss operational logistics and send you the Loan Agreement form to sign. Once this is complete your exhibits will be shipped to you.
Can I pre-order artwork?
The artwork can only be booked out when it is available. If you are interested in booking artwork that is currently on loan please e-mail email@example.com
and we will contact you when it is available.
I still have questions. Can I speak with someone?
Please call 0845 213 5289, Monday to Friday during office hours and we will be happy to assist.
