Learning Programme Credit Rated

SQA’s SCQF Credit Rating Service has recently credit rated a learning programme designed as Continued Professional Development for technical support staff in schools.

The programme entitled ‘Safe use of fixed Workshop Machinery’ was submitted by the Scottish Schools Equipment Research Centre (SSERC) and has been credit rated at SCQF level 5 with 2 SCQF Credit Points.

Brian Richmond of SSERC, said ‘Technicians working in education in most Scottish local authorities are given in-house training in a number of areas. Unfortunately, certificates issued on completion of this training are little more than 'certificates of attendance' and do not carry any national recognition.

By submitting this programme to the SQA to be SCQF credit rated and levelled it was felt that it would provide a more meaningful CPD experience for technicians by providing them with a certificate on completion of the programme that is nationally recognised and valued, not only by them,  but also by those who they support.

‘This was a new experience for us and at first glance were a bit daunted by what appeared to be a fairly complex process. However, we found the staff at the SQA to be extremely helpful in guiding us through the process. They were always on hand to answer our queries and their assistance was very much appreciated.’
