Advanced Highers are, as the name suggests, advanced qualifications. They are usually taken in the sixth year at school or at college. People who take Advanced Highers have normally passed Highers. Advanced Highers are National Courses. They are usually made up of three National Units and an external assessment — normally an examination or project.

A free enterprise resource is available to all of Scotland's schools and takes the form of an internet business game that gives pupils and teachers the opportunity to run a football store.
This game has been developed in collaboration with Scottish teachers including input from Rangers and Hearts, and is based on a successful pilot (see www.sportsstore.org.uk) involving 18 schools and 1,200 pupils ranging across S1-S5. Teachers have had the opportunity to include the game in lessons in Business Education, Maths/ICT, English, PE and PSE, supported by resources such as lesson plans and pupil worksheets and notes.
The game has been developed by a New Zealand company, supported by SQA and Microsoft, and with guidance from Learning & Teaching Scotland. Pupils in Scotland have been competing with their peers in New Zealand and teacher study visits to New Zealand have taken place during the pilot.
