Standard Grade Ready-reckoner

This Excel spreadsheet below will calculate the overall Standard Grade award from the contributing element awards.  It will help centre staff to identify where an element upgrade would change the overall subject grade, as a result of a successful appeal.

Centre staff are reminded that a Standard Grade appeal should only submitted where, if successful, it would result in an upgrade to the overall subject grade.

An example of how to use the spreadsheet is given below.

In Accounting and Finance, a candidate's element awards are 1 (for Knowledge & Understanding), 2 (for Handling Information) and 2 (for Practical Abilities). The overall award is 2.  The candidate’s estimate was 1 for Handling Information and the centre is considering appealing for this candidate/element.

By inputting the original element awards to the appropriate subject/row in the spreadsheet and in the correct column (element/columns are ordered as per element code numbers), the spreadsheet will show the overall subject grade.

By amending the element grade to the estimate grade for the element you are considering appealing for (from 2 to 1 for Handling Information in element 2, in this example) the spreadsheet will calculate the potential overall subject grade. The estimate grade and revised overall subject grade are shown in red below.

This spreadsheet is relevant for use in 2008 only. You can save it to your own computer but you must ensure that you replace it each year. Also when using the spreadsheet, you should ensure that you clear the data for each case, before inputting the next.
