Qualifications for the Future (QF)

What We Do

Our Aim

Our aim is to ensure that SQA is prepared for policy change which affects qualifications and assessment across the full range of its portfolio, through four interrelated strands of work:

  • Curriculum for Excellence
  • Core Skills
  • The development of activities and approaches to meet the needs of young people in need of More Choices, More Chances
  • Developing a vision of SQA products for the future

Curriculum for Excellence work centres on the development of qualifications and assessment which will promote the development of the four capacities – successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors – and support learning and teaching within the new curriculum.

Core Skills work supports the integration of the 5 Core Skills, namely:

  • Communication;
  • Numeracy;
  • Information Communication Technology ICT;
  • Problem Solving; and
  • Working with Others;

within learning and teaching across sectors such as school, community, workplace, college and professional development.

In developing provision to meet the needs of those in need of More Choices, More Chances (that is, those who leave school and find no opportunity for employment, education or training) we are identifying effective approaches to support vulnerable learners to be successful both in terms of attainment and achievement across the spectrum of curriculum, workplace and community.

Developing a vision of SQA products for the future work focuses on working with colleagues across the organisation to develop a high level vision of what our products might look like in the future by considering current and emerging ideas about learning, assessment and qualifications.
