(G8KY 15 & G8L0 16)
These Courses were devised under the new HN design principles as part of an overall revision of HN Art and Design. The new suite of Art and Design qualifications also provides HNC/HNDs in Visual Communication, 3D Design, Photography, Computer Arts and Design and Contemporary Art Practice.
Based on the new design principles, it would then follow that in year one/HNC there is now a one credit Graded Unit and in year two/HND there is a two credit Graded Unit. These Graded Units are designed to allow candidates to integrate their knowledge of the mandatory Units within their specific Group Award.
Following validation of the Computer Arts and Design awards, the Qualifications Design Team reconstituted and became the Qualifications Support Team (QST). The task of this working group is to monitor the implementation of the award and to ensure that it remains fit for purpose. This allows delivering centres to reflect on the award and to provide comment where appropriate. The QST will monitor the feedback from centres and consider what help and advice may need to be given.
The HNC and HND were both validated in December 2006 and should be in place by Easter 2007. Ongoing work is taking place on Exemplar material, with some currently being available and others in the process of finalisation. SQA appreciates the support of their writers in this task. Delivering staff can assess all available Exemplars relating to this award via the secure area of SQA's website. Co-ordinators within the centres will be able to assist with this process.
A formal launch event for the new HN Art and Design suite took place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow on Thursday 17 May 2007. All delivering centres were invited to attend. The evening was very successful, highlighting the hard work and partnership that has gone into this major revision and rationalisation of the HN Art and Design awards in our catalogue.
