Equality

Welcome to our equality home page.

SQA is committed to mainstreaming equality into its operations for the benefit of all our staff and customers. We see delivering on our equality duties, set out in the Equality Act 2010, as integral to delivering our vision. The general equality duty requires SQA to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations across a range of protected characteristics. These include age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

We welcome the publication of the specific duties for Scotland. The development of our Equality Strategy is an important step in refreshing SQA’s approach to equality in response to these duties.

SQA’s Equality Strategy 2013-17 explains our commitment and actions to meet, and go beyond, our statutory obligations.

We have made good progress towards integrating equality in the development of our policies and activities. Our Equality Mainstreaming Report 2012-13 provides further information and details our progress.
