Scottish Progression Awards

Scottish Progression Awards (SPAs) have been designed by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) as a good way to get yourself started on the road to getting a qualification that recognises the skills and knowledge which you use in your work, or which you will gain during work placement or work experience.

You can study to build up the knowledge and understanding at a college, school, or a training centre (and, in time, you'll also be able to do it online).  A work placement can be organised if you need it.

What's available?

There will be information published on this website for a number of SPAs over the next few months.  Be sure to check this section of SQA's website regularly to find out more about new courses as they are made available.

Interested in offering SPAs in your centre?

SQA is presently in discussion with international awarding bodies to ensure that SPAs are recognised and available to purchase worldwide.

Centres interested in offering SPAs should apply for approval from SQA in the usual way.  It may be that your centre is already offering an SVQ in this area, in which case there will be no need for an approval visit.  Units can be downloaded from the website.
