PC Passport can be assessed traditionally – using paper and pencil – or using online assessment. Traditional assessment combines objective questions with short practical tasks.

From the secure area of SQA's website you can download the latest paper-based version and there are both candidate and instructor resources to help support the assessment process.
PC Passport has been one of the first SQA qualifications to incorporate e-assessment. Centres have the option of assessing knowledge and understanding using online assessment; the practical assessments can be done using an e-portfolio – which is an online repository for their practical work.

If you wish to register candidates for e-assessment, you must first be a registered e-assessment centre. The appropriate partner organisation (once your centre is registered) will then explain how to schedule candidate e-assessments.

E-assessment for multiple choice tests are now available through SOLAR. SOLAR is the brand name for a suite of technologies and services supporting assessment within SQA's qualifications.

Whatever method or version of PC Passport is used, the assessment will be valid and reliable – and as simple as possible for candidates and teachers.
