General: it is the responsibility of candidates to ensure that they comply with requirements governing entry to courses and examinations before embarking on a course of study.   Requirements are determined by the MCA and are given in the appropriate publication (see Introduction).

Candidates for Deck Officer examinations and certain Marine Engineer Officer professional examinations must possess a valid Notice of Eligibility, which should be produced when a candidate applies to take an examination.

In exceptional circumstances, SQA may accept an application from the centre for a candidate who is not in possession of a Notice of Eligibility.   In such circumstances the Notice of Eligibility must be shown to a member of the examination centre staff before a candidate is admitted to sit the examination.

Proof of identity  candidates must produce a discharge book, passport or other acceptable form of identification which includes a photograph before entry to an examination is allowed.
