Case Study: Register and ID cards 1
Background
The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) requires that any excavation or reinstatement of the road/highway on behalf of a utility company must be carried out by qualified personnel. Each site must have at least one trained operative on site at all times and one trained supervisor appointed to the site to oversee the works.
What SQA provided
SQA was selected by the Department for Transport to maintain a register of Street Works qualifications. The selection was based on our ability to provide an administration service, our commitment to quality, and our excellent customer service.
On behalf of the Department for Transport, we became responsible for:
- Maintaining a register that holds details of supervisors and operators including the qualifications they have gained in relation to the NRSWA
- Processing initial registrations and re-registrations
- Producing personal ID cards (which includes security features)
- Processing requests for ID card replacements
- Responding to written enquiries from road authorities, contracting companies, and other prospective employers
