SVQs in Early Years Care and Education levels 2, 3 and 4

The approval of the new National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Children's Care Learning and Development  has been delayed.  As a result of this the accreditation period of the existing SVQs in Early Years Care and Education levels 2, 3 and 4 has been extended as follows:

The SVQs will enter their lapsing period on 31/10/2005 and thereafter candidates cannot be entered for these awards.  The completion dates for the SVQs are detailed below:

  • G3HW 22 SVQ Early Years Care and Education level 2 -  31/10/2007
  • G45V 23 SVQ Early Years Care and Education level 3 - 31/10/2008
  • G6WP 24 SVQ Early Years Care and Education level 4 - 31/10/2009

The new SVQs in Children's Care, Learning and Development, levels 2, 3 and 4 will be available from 1 November 2005.

Professional Development Awards (PDAs)

Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (SCQF level 8)

Following the successful validation of the Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (SCQF level 8) the Group Award and Units have now been finalised and codes allocated. 

The Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (SCQF level 8) is a revision and review of the earlier version of the PDA in Childcare and Education.  The new title has been chosen to reflect the terminology used in the National Care Standards and the advanced nature of the qualification.

Centres previously approved for the PDA in Childcare and Education award will automatically be approved for the new Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (SCQF level 8) and all the Units contained within the Group Award.

The award is presented with a mandatory section considered to be necessary to underpin the execution of duties at an advanced practitioner/managerial level.  However, the inclusion of the specialist option section allows a wider target audience reflecting the diverse provision for those working in Early Years, Childcare and Playwork sectors.
