HND Computer Networking and Internet TechnologyThe HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology covers the advanced use of the routing and switching technologies that underlie computer networks and internet works. It also explores the advanced use of the operating systems which support these. You will also gain specialised knowledge of network security, and specific server roles, such as web servers or mail servers.

The HND will develop your knowledge and skills such as planning, analysing, study, research and synthesising.

The HND may help you gain employment as a Networking Technician or Network Administrator.

The HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology will help you prepare to sit a range of vendor qualifications, including CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, and Cisco Certified Network Administrator examinations.

The HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology award enables articulation to a range of Computer Networking and generic Computing degrees. You should check with your centre for any arrangements it has with universities.

Entry

The HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology award enables articulation to a range of Computer Networking and generic Computing degrees. You should check with your centre for any arrangements it has with universities.

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the Centre. Examples of suitable formal entry qualifications include:

  • National Certificate Digital Media Computing at SCQF level 6
  • Any relevant Higher, together with two Standard Grade passes at level 3 or above.
  • An SVQ 2 or 3 in Computing, Information Technology or other relevant area.
  • Relevant National Units at appropriate levels (eg core skills units at Intermediate 1 or 2) combined with any of the above.
  • Different combinations of relevant National Qualifications, Vocational Qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may also be acceptable, as would suitable vendor qualifications at an appropriate level.

It would be advisable for you to have some prior knowledge of computing or information technology. Formal qualifications may not be necessary if you have suitable work experience.
