Where the marker check procedure has identified a need, scripts that have been awarded a mark near the borderline between one grade and another are re-marked. A system of automatically prioritising candidates' scripts for re-marking ensures that, for example, top priority is given to a candidate whose mark is just below a boundary where (a) the estimate would suggest a better award, and (b) the script was marked by a relatively severe marker.
Awards for absentee candidates are also determined during this procedure.
