HNC Computer Networking candidate information
The HNC Computer Networking will allow you to gain skills and knowledge in PC hardware and software, client and server operating systems, computer networks, web technologies and development, internet security and business, and desktop operating system support.
It will also develop your skills in planning, analysing, study, research and synthesising.
Employment and progression opportunities
The HNC may help you gain employment in a role such as Computer Technician, Network Technician, or Help-Desk Officer.
The HNC has been designed to allow you to progress to HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology.
As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the Centre. Examples of suitable formal entry qualifications include:
- Any relevant Higher, together with two Standard Grade passes at level 3 or above.
- An SVQ at level 2 or 3 in Computing, Information Technology or other relevant area.
- Relevant National Units at appropriate levels (eg core skills units at Intermediate 1 or 2) combined with any of the above.
Different combinations of relevant National Qualifications, Vocational Qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may also be acceptable, as would suitable vendor qualifications at an appropriate level.
It would be advisable for you to have some prior knowledge of computing or information technology. Formal qualifications may not be necessary if you have suitable work experience.
