Professional Development for Staff Delivering NQGAs

Elda Fleck, Aileen Duffy & Sandra Jane Grier from SFEU delivered this workshop.  The first part of the workshop detailed the aims of the NQGA development programme as being to create a system which is:

  • fit for purpose
  • up to date
  • enhances progression opportunities for candidates.

Delegates were then informed of the aims of National Certificates and National Progression Awards and some time was also spent on the design principles for these qualifications.

Consideration was given to the following:

  • optional Unit/NPA selection
  • progression building
  • 12+

Delegates questions included:

  • What potential is there for colleges and schools to work collaboratively to prepare learners for lifelong learning within the revised qualification structure?
  • How do we increase staff awareness and the use of SCQF in the structuring and planning of teaching and assessment?

Discussion also centred around winning over hearts and minds to ensure both subject specific and wider 'essential skills' for lifelong learning were embedded throughout teaching and learning processes.

Professional Development for Staff Delivering NQGAs Finally, there was a discussion of what role can SFEU play in supporting centres plan and deliver a coherent, progressive curriculum.
