Your Results and Your Certificates

We have already started putting your Unit and Standard Grade Element results into our computer system, and will continue to do so as they come in. We need to have processed these results so that we can add them to your overall result. You will receive your Scottish Qualifications Certificate (SQC) by first-class mail on Tuesday 5 August.

MySQA

MySQA is a new web service offering you secure and unique access to your results.

Why wait for your results envelope to drop through the mail box? If you register for MySQA you can choose to have your results sent by e-mail or text first thing on Tuesday 5 August.

Register, and you'll get your results no matter what - even if you're away from home, you won't have to have someone else open the results for you. And you won't have to wait.

Find out how to activate your account on www.whywait.org.uk.

Some of you will be going on to university or college, and we will make sure that the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) has information about your results in time for them to tell your choice of college or university about your results.

If you are returning for the new session we will also be sending results information to your school so that there is plenty of time for teachers to plan next year's timetables and give you career and course guidance. If your SQC does not arrive on Tuesday 5 August, and you were expecting one, please contact your school or college immediately.

The school or college will be able to confirm your results and liaise with us to find out what has happened to your SQC. If you change your permanent home address, tell your school or college immediately. This will ensure that your SQC is delivered directly to your home and avoids confusion or delays.

If you achieve a Scottish Group Award (SGA) you will receive your SGA certificate at the same time as your SQC.

Support for you at results time

If you do not understand your certificate, or if you think something is missing or wrong, go immediately to your school or college and ask for help. If there is a problem, your school or college will contact us to sort it out.

A telephone advice line will also be available from 4 - 8 August. You can ring this for advice on the content and layout of your certificate. The advice line number will be given in the information leaflet issued with your certificate.

Appeals

SQA has a review process for candidates who did not perform as well in an exam as their school or college expected them to. This part of the booklet gives you general information about SQA's appeals system. If you need more detailed information, please ask the person in your school or college who is responsible for SQA exams to help you.

How appeals are made

Before you sit your exam, your school or college will have sent us an estimate of how they think you will perform. This estimate will be based on their assessment of work you have completed throughout the Course.

If, on the day of the exam, you do not achieve the result your school or college expected, an appeal can be submitted on your behalf - but only if:

  • you have attempted all parts of the assessment
  • your school or college has sufficient and appropriate evidence to support their estimate

You cannot make an appeal directly, and neither can your parents or other representative. Appeals can only be made by the school or college that entered you for the exam.

How SQA deals with appeals

Teams of subject experts will look closely at the additional evidence or work that your school or college submits. Where necessary, they will also look again at your original exam script. If your evidence is appropriate and was produced under required conditions (your school or college will forward the details to SQA), this will give the examiners a detailed picture of your performance during the Course. They will use this to make a final judgement on what grade to award you.

Appeals results

Higher and Advanced Higher appeals are considered first, usually in September.  Appeals for Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Standard Grade are considered in October. Your school or college will know the key submission dates that they have to meet. We will tell your school or college what the result of your appeal is, by the dates listed, and they will then pass this information to you.

  • Urgent appeals for entry to Higher or further education courses by 20 September
  • Higher or Advanced Higher appeals by end of September
  • Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Standard Grade appeals by mid-November

If your appeal has not been successful, we will provide information to your school or college to explain why. If your appeal is successful, we will issue a replacement certificate to you at the end of November.
