I was expecting a better grade than the one I achieved – can I appeal for a better grade?

Please get in touch with your school or college and discuss the matter with staff there. All appeals must be submitted by the school or college which entered you for the examination. We would advise you to get in touch with your school or college quickly as there are very tight timelines for submitting appeal evidence to us.

Appeals cannot be made by individual candidates or parents. This is because we need to have detailed evidence to substantiate the appeal which is required to be submitted for our appeal teams to review. This information is available in centres.

If you require more detailed information, please ask the person in your school or college who is responsible for SQA examinations to help you.  Alternatively you will find useful information on our website at www.sqa.org.uk/appeals

NQ Appeals 2011 : Key Dates

Higher and Advanced Higher appeals are considered first followed by the appeals for Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Standard Grade. Your school or college will know the key submission dates that they have to meet.

Last date of receipt for Stage 1 appeals requests & evidence 19Aug
Last date of receipt for Stage 2 appeals requests & evidence 9 Sept

Issue of Stage 1 (urgent) appeals results to centres 20 Sept
Issue of Stage 2 appeals results with feedback to centres 4 Nov

If your appeal has not been successful, we will provide information to your school or college to explain why. If your appeal is successful, we will issue a replacement certificate to you by the end of November.
