
The Professional Development Award (PDA) in Inclusiveness: Promoting Equality and Diversity in the Learning Environment at SCQF level 9 offers candidates the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to deal with all aspects of equality and diversity. It is designed to meet the CPD needs of teachers, lecturers and managers in Scotland’s colleges who already hold a teaching qualification, and develops the knowledge and skills to deal with all aspects of equality and diversity, ie race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, sexual orientation and gender.

Candidates who successfully complete the PDA in Inclusiveness: Promoting Equality and Diversity in the Learning Environment will be able to promote diversity and inclusiveness, take action to challenge prejudice and discrimination, provide high quality teaching for all learners by creating and managing inclusive learning, teaching and assessment strategies, and build confidence in teaching a diverse range of learners.
The PDA in Inclusiveness: Promoting Equality and Diversity in the Learning Environment at SCQF level 9 meets the CPD needs of teachers and managers in Scotland’s colleges who already hold a teaching qualification.
Entry is at the discretion of the centre but candidates would normally be expected to be working towards or have a recognised teaching qualification, eg TQ (FE), PDA for Teaching in Further Education or TQ: Adult Literacies.
Different combinations of relevant National Qualifications, vocational qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may also be acceptable.
This is a standalone in-service PDA. There are a number of other PDAs in this series for experienced further education lecturers, such as PDA in Managing and Leading a Curriculum Team.
Centres with devolved authority are eligible to seek approval through their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact the Business Development Team for guidance in completing the combined CA1/SA1 form.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence.
Ongoing Course assessment will apply. Each individual Unit specification gives detailed information on the Evidence Requirements and approaches to assessment for each Unit.

Supporting and Promoting Diversity — F13N 36
For candidates where English is not their first language it is recommended that they possess English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) level 5 or a score of 5.5 in IELTS.
