PDA Administrative Management

The Professional Development Award (PDA) in Administrative Management at SCQF level 8 is aimed at candidates who are seeking employment or CPD in a senior administrative role. Knowledge and skills covered in the PDA includes managing resources, information systems, interpersonal relationships, events, budgets, and statistical information.

 

The qualification is available through colleges and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification

The PDA in Administrative Management at SCQF level 8 can be delivered flexibly on a part-time or open-learning basis to suit candidate needs.

It provides a continuing professional development programme at SCQF level 8 for staff in relevant job roles.

The PDA provides a manageable qualification for part-time candidates. The Units within the PDA are also included within the HND in Administration and Information Technology, providing centres with the option of combining classes and gives candidates the option of progressing to the HND.

Who does this qualification suit

The target audience for this qualification would be:

  • candidates who, having completed an HNC, do not wish to undertake a full HND
  • those who have gained experience and competence within their job roles but do not have certification for those skills
  • someone returning to employment who already has significant experience in the administrative area
  • those who have recently progressed to a senior administrative role and wish to progress in their studies

Delivery is flexible and the qualification can be achieved on a part-time basis.

Access

Access to this award is at the discretion of the centre. The following examples provide guidance on qualifications and/or experience appropriate for entry:

  • communication skills at SCQF level 6 or equivalent
  • current work experience in administrative work and appropriate transferable skills
  • HNC in Administration and Information Technology or similar qualification at SCQF level 7
  • SVQ level 3 or SVQ level 4 in Administration
  • ICT Core Skill at SCQF level 6 or equivalent

Progression

Candidates who complete this award could go on to complete an HND in Administration and Information Technology, or progress to supervisory or management roles within an administrative environment.

Approval

Centres with devolved authority are eligible to seek approval through their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact the Business Development Team for guidance in completing the combined CA1/SA1 form.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements as outlined in the guide to approval.

How to assess

Knowledge and skills are assessed via a portfolio approach. Evidence may be generated from actual work experience or from case studies. A portfolio approach enables more flexible options for assessment and encourages candidates to relate their learning to their own work environment if applicable.
