It provides a continuing professional development programme at SCQF level 8 for staff in relevant job roles.
The PDA provides a manageable qualification for part-time candidates. The Units within the PDA are also included within the HND in Administration and Information Technology, providing centres with the option of combining classes and gives candidates the option of progressing to the HND.

The target audience for this qualification would be:
- candidates who, having completed an HNC, do not wish to undertake a full HND
- those who have gained experience and competence within their job roles but do not have certification for those skills
- someone returning to employment who already has significant experience in the administrative area
- those who have recently progressed to a senior administrative role and wish to progress in their studies
Delivery is flexible and the qualification can be achieved on a part-time basis.
