Sponsorship Checklist

Sponsorship Logo SmallThe headings and advice below should help you prepare an application for sponsorship from SQA.

Make sure you’ve read our sponsorship policy before preparing an application. There are some types of sponsorship requests we can’t support and these are listed in the policy guide – so read this first and then apply using the checklist below.

Sponsorship Application Checklist

You need to tell us:

  • The title of the event/project you want sponsorship for
     
  • The name of your organisation

    • You must be legally constituted and able to sign a sponsorship agreement.
       
    • You must have a good reputation within the education and training community.
       
    • You must also have the capacity to deliver this type of project. Give evidence of previous experience.
       
    • You must have a brand recognition within the target audience for your event/project.
       
  • Your name and contact details

    • Include a phone number or mobile number and e-mail address to help us reach you.
       
  • Key Timings

    • Tell us when the sponsored event/project will take place/appear.
       
    • Tell us when you need a decision.
       
  • A summary of the event/project you’d like us to sponsor

    • Explain the aims and objectives of the project and what market segments it will reach. If the initiative has been run previously or has a track record/evidence of success, tell us about it
       
    • Tell us about the checks you have in place to ensure a high quality sponsored event/project etc.
       
    • Do you have achievable timescales and a realistic budget to deliver the project?
       
    • Is the project supported by high quality marketing and PR to ensure that our support is properly acknowledged?
       
    • Tell us who the other partners/sponsors are
       
    • Is it similar to anything SQA has sponsored before? In the past we have sponsored things such as:

      • Adult Learners Week
      • Herald Student Journalism Awards
      • English Speaking Union and National Galleries of Scotland Get Writing Competition
      • Modern Apprenticeship Awards
      • The Care Accolades
      • Get Learning Theatre Tour
      • National Training Awards
      • Scottish Training Federation Annual Conference   
  • The benefits to SQA

    • Make sure you highlight the value for money benefits of us getting involved
       
    • Outline how you will reach a particular audience through your project/event
       
    • Does your event/project align with our strategic objectives/corporate values to develop Scottish education and training? Does it help us meet some of our objectives in our Corporate Plan?
       
    • What return is likely on our investment in terms of public relations and brand awareness?
       
  • Target Markets

    • Tell us the type of people you’ll influence/reach with your event/project. Are these the type of organisations/people SQA does business with?
       
  • How does this fit in with SQA's Objectives

    • Does it help us deliver our objectives set out in our current Corporate Plan?
       
    • Does it promote partnerships?
       
    • Does it help SQA retain and satisfy our customers, offer value for money or have an impact on Scottish education and training?
       
    • Does it promote partnership with key stakeholders eg, Scottish Executive, local government, teaching associations?
       
  • The cost involved

    • Tell us the support you’d like and what you’d offer in return in terms of creating extra awareness of SQA’s products and services.
       
    • If you foresee any financial problems, or the need for extra finance or support from us, let us know.
       
  • Detail how you’d evaluate the success of the event/project

    • We want to support projects which reach key audiences and offer good value for the public money we’re spending.
       
    • If the event has been run before, some form of evaluation of its previous success will help us decide on future sponsorship.
