Why deliver this qualification
The PDA in Developing Literacies Learning Programmes is designed to meet the needs of people who wish to develop the specific knowledge, skills and understanding for a role that includes engaging employers and employees in adult literacies.
Who does this qualification suit
The PDA in Developing Literacies Learning Programmes is designed to support the continuous professional development of adult literacies practitioners by extending their skills, knowledge and understanding of the principles, process and practice of developing and delivering literacies learning in a workplace context. It is also relevant to staff in private and public sector organisations whose main remit is staff development and training.
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of adult literacies learning, have been assessed on the delivery of literacies learning, and have at least one year’s experience in literacies learning development and/or delivery, in either a paid or voluntary capacity. Candidates should be working in an adult literacies context in either a paid or volunteering capacity.
This can be evidenced by the PDA: Introduction to Tutoring in Adult Literacies Learning (ITALL) or equivalent at SCQF level 6 or other relevant training in adult literacies.
Although not essential, it would be an advantage if candidates have the opportunity to secure an agreement to work with an employer for the purpose of applying the learning.
Candidates could progress as adult literacies practitioners into Literacies In The Workplace, a specialist field within adult literacies.
There is potential transferability to qualifications in the area of learning and development as well as providing CPD within a workplace setting.
Centres with devolved authority are eligible to seek approval through their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact the Business Development Team for guidance in completing the combined CA1/SA1 form.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements as outlined in the guide to approval.
How to assess
The assessment methods used include reports, and written response questioning. The exemplar assessment material will contextualise each assessment and exemplify the standard for successful completion.
