SQA has secured European Social Fund (ESF) grant income to develop support materials for Skills for Work courses until 31 May 2011 through the Priority 3 initiative.

The S4S project is providing an SQA customised e-portfolio for all candidates undertaking a Skills for Work Course. In addition, a phased development schedule for other electronic assessment materials is underway for a range of Skills for Work Courses, as well as continued development of Scotland's Colleges support packs which will become available throughout the year. The first phase of the electronic assessment materials has now been completed and covers the following areas:

Creative Digital Media Intermediate 1 (online checklists in development)
Construction Crafts Intermediate 1 (online checklists )
Early Education & Childcare Intermediate 1 (e-assessments and online checklists)

The electronic support materials, which were developed in partnership with Scotland's colleges through the S4S project are available from Scotland's Colleges website.

A series of training events were held in September 2008 across Scotland to encourage tutors delivering Skills for Work Courses to gain confidence in using the e-portfolio system as a delivery model. Feedback was very positive and we now aim to build on this success and promote the e-portfolio and the additional materials.

SQA is also developing Games Based Assessment (GamesSpace) in selected Skills for Work Courses. This will allow candidates to enter a simulated workplace environment and perform simulated tasks to demonstrate the key competences required. Games Based Assessment in Retailing Intermediate 2 and Helath Sector Intermediate 1 will shortly be available and new subject areas are in development.

Further information on the e-portfolio (DeskSpace) and Games Based Assessment (GamesSpace) is available on the Skills for Work section.
