In December 2008, SQA working in partnership with Scotland’s colleges successfully completed an ambitious five-year HN Modernisation Project. As a result, the HN catalogue has been revised and updated.
Prior to the HN Modernisation Project finishing, SQA undertook an evaluation of the 2003 HN Design Principles (215 KB), on which all revised HN qualifications are based, and a consultation on the HN Modernisation Project exit strategy (138 KB), which sought the views of stakeholders on continued partnership post-HN modernisation.
In the main, the evaluation showed that centres were happy with the 2003 Design Principles. However, the reports also highlighted some implementation issues that still need to be addressed. In the consultation on the exit strategy, centres recognised the benefits of having a coherent, fit-for-purpose catalogue of HN qualifications and indicated a keen willingness to continue the strong partnerships that had developed over the modernisation period.
The following sections give details of the recommendations and issues identified by the HN Key Partners’ Group and the measures which have been put in place to address these.
