Show Racism the Red Card

Show Racism the Red Card, the Scottish Qualifications Authority and the Scottish Football Association have joined forces once again to promote our annual anti-racism competition.

We know there’s phenomenal creative talent in Scotland’s schools and colleges and we want to use that talent to get across the message that racism and sectarianism have no place in Scotland. Our 2012 competition is bigger and more inclusive than ever, this year we are also encouraging entries that promote the anti-sectarian message.

Pupils and students across Scotland are asked to produce a creative piece of work that promotes messages of anti-racism or anti-sectarianism.

The concept is simple, come up with a piece of creative work that gets across loud and clear the message that racism and sectarianism are not welcome in Scotland.

The competition has been running since 2003 and thousands of pupils from all over Scotland have entered the competition. The competition culminates with a prize giving ceremony at Hampden Park with celebrities from the football world on hand to meet the winners.

Bill Butler the Scottish Campaign Manager of Show Racism the Red Card said “Since it started in 2003, the competition has been a highly successful component of our anti-racism campaign. We are really excited to be widening the competition to include anti-sectarian entries this year. Over the years our young people have produced some amazing pieces of creative work sending out the clear message that there is no place for prejudice in our society.”

Dr Janet Brown, SQA Chief Executive said “The SQA are delighted to support the competition for a third year. SQA is committed to promoting a fair and inclusive Scotland. The competition has been a great success in recent years and sends a very clear message that racism has no place in Scotland.”
