New! Curriculum for Excellence web pages

LOGO: Curriculum for Excellence logo

Curriculum for Excellence is about helping all young people in Scotland to take their place in a modern society and economy.

It provides a framework that will enable children and young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.

We are one of the four partner national organisations involved in Curriculum for Excellence. We work with partners on all strands of the development. Our principal role is to contribute to work on qualifications and assessment. As part of our ongoing communication activities we have created new Currriculum for Excellence pages on our website.

A funded development opportunity for Colleges!

Following the successful HN Modernisation programme, we have been making major revisions to the non advanced group award provision and as a result a range of new National Certificates and National Progression Awards (NPAs) is now available to centres.  Collectively these qualifications are known as National Qualifications Group Awards (NQGA).To date, these developments have been SQA led, in partnership with colleges.

We are now focusing on the development of National Certificates and NPAs in specialist areas. This development phase offers colleges an opportunity to access funding to refresh their own specialist National Certificate and NPA provision at SCQF levels 2-6.  The development of these awards will be led directly by colleges, and supported by SQA.

Many colleges have in the past designed local programmes to fit local needs - sometimes simply by grouping together clusters of Units. However, by making some revisions to existing local programmes, or designing a new non advanced award where there is a gap in current provision and an identified need, it can be possible to develop these into National Certificates or National Progression Awards which will benefit from national recognition.

Funding is now available to support colleges in this work. To find out more or  to arrange for us to visit your college to discuss your ideas, please contact us at: nqga@sqa.org.uk

It follows initiatives by the UK Government to stimulate positive changes to potentially harmful driving attitudes and behaviours. Its main purpose is the develop young people's road sense. The Award focuses on positive attitudes and behaviours whilst developing learners' knowledge and confidence for safe road use.

The CIECA is active in the fields of road safety and driver testing and has 40 member countries worldwide.
