Looking to the Future – Chief Executive

IMAGE: Janet Brown.I hope you enjoyed reading our Annual Review for 2008-2009, a year that has been one of significant achievement for SQA, in both our Accreditation and Awarding functions.

As we look to the year ahead, we face a number of exciting challenges that I know we will meet with enthusiasm, passion, innovation and creativity.

Our strategic goals support the Scottish Government’s National Outcomes and our plans reflect our commitment to – public sector efficiency and partnership, our vision and values, and our contribution to Scottish Government policy.

During the coming year our Awarding function will begin to develop new qualifications to support the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence. We will continue to ensure the successful delivery of existing qualifications and activities.

We will play a full part in supporting the Scottish Government’s Economic Recovery Programme and will continue to respond to the challenges outlined in Skills for Scotland: A Lifelong Skills Strategy.

Our Accreditation function will ensure that more qualifications awarded in Scotland are developed and delivered in a way that meets the needs of both individuals and employers.

To help us support the increasing demand for ‘online’, ‘on-demand’ and ‘at a distance’ services, we will continue to invest in new technology to enable us to increase our e-learning and e-assessment offerings.

As part of our commitment to our role in the Scottish community, we will roll out our corporate social responsibility strategy which encompasses a range of activities that support our staff, local communities and the environment.

I look forward to the challenges ahead and know that our dedicated staff is committed to this work, making their contribution to Scotland’s education and training system.

Dr. Janet Brown,
SQA Chief Executive
