Baccalaureates Events

Candidate Support Event: June 2011

A support event was held on 21 June 2011 in Stirling Management Centre. The half day event was aimed at prospective Science and Language Baccalaureate candidates and their teachers/lecturers. Over 200 delegates from 35 centres attended. Around 150 of these were pupils.

Baccalaureate Support Event: Quality Assurance

On 24 February 2011, a Baccalaureate Support Event was held in the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow. The event was aimed at centres delivering the Baccalaureates in Science and Languages in the 20010–11 session. It focused on quality assurance including assessment/understanding standards, internal verification, the quality forum model and external verification.

The event consisted of presentations from the Head of Humanities and Business, the Baccalaureate Development Manager, the Baccalaureates Senior Verifier and four centre representatives followed by workshop activities.

Delegates benefited from the opportunity to discuss ideas, clarify issues, and share experiences, as well as meeting representatives from other centres and SQA.

The event was attended by representatives from almost all delivering centres, local authorities and higher education.

Scottish Baccalaureate support event

A Scottish Baccalaureate support event took place on Wednesday 29 September 2010 at the Barcelo Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh. Aimed at colleagues who are delivering the Scottish Baccalaureates in Science and Languages for the first time in 2010–11, the event was attended by 85 delegates from 62 centres, along with representatives from local authorities, higher education, and Learning and Teaching Scotland.


Baccalaureate Support Event: Languages

On 9 March 2010 a Baccalaureate Support Event was held in the Radisson Hotel in Edinburgh. The event was aimed at centres not yet delivering the Baccalaureate in Languages, but planning to deliver in the future. It focused on the experience of colleagues in the first year of the award and how to plan for the future.

The event consisted of presentations (from the Head of Humanities and Social Subjects, the Baccalaureate Development Manager, three representatives from delivering centres, the Head of Languages at Heriot-Watt University and representatives from Scottish CILT) and a workshop activity.

Delegates benefited from the opportunity to discuss ideas, clarify issues, share experiences and meet representatives from other centres and SQA.

The event was attended by 46 delegates from centres, local authorities and higher education.

Baccalaureate Support Event: Quality Assurance


On 23rd February 2010 a Baccalaureate Support Event was held in Stirling Management Centre. The event was aimed at centres delivering the new awards in Science and Languages in the 2009-10 session. It focused on Quality Assurance including Assessment/understanding standards, Internal Verification, the Quality Forum model and External Verification.

The event consisted of presentations from the Head of Science and Technology, the Quality Manager, the Baccalaureate Development Manager and four centre representatives followed by workshop activities .

Delegates benefited from the opportunity to discuss ideas, clarify issues, share experience as well as meeting representatives from other centres and SQA..

The event was attended by representatives from almost all delivering centres, local authorities and higher education.

Support Network Event

On 30 September 2009 a Baccalaureate support event was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow. The event was aimed at centres delivering the new awards in Science and Languages this session and at those planning to deliver in the future.

It focused on the practicalities of delivering the Baccalaureates through three rotating workshops entitled ‘Getting Started’, ‘Partnership Working’ and ‘Project Management’. During the lunch break there were demonstrations by the Goethe-Institut of their online course to support the Baccalaureate, and by SQA of the PebblePad e-portfolio.

There was also ample opportunity for delegates to network and share experiences. The event was attended by delegates from centres. Local authorities and the higher education sector were also represented.
