Glasgow is the proud host city of the 20th Commonwealth Games. The Games will run for 12 days from 23 July to 3 August 2014.
The Commonwealth Games will be a spectacular display of world-class sporting success. But it’s not just about the sport – the Games are an opportunity for businesses, organisations and communities across Scotland to benefit now and in the future
The organising committee’s vision is to stage an outstanding, athlete-centred and sport focused Games of world-class competition which will be celebrated across the Commonwealth, generate enormous pride in Glasgow and Scotland, and leave a lasting legacy.
SQA is working closely with the 2014 Games Legacy Committee to ensure the learning opportunities available before, during and after the Games add real value to learners of all ages including the 15,000 volunteers currently being recruited to deliver the most successful Commonwealth Games ever. SQA has a number of qualifications tailored to a number of key sectors which will be essential to the successful delivery of the Games that will enhance visitors’ experience of Glasgow and Scotland, develop people’s skills and training and enhance learning opportunities.
SQA is trusted to deliver qualifications that enable learners to develop clear pathways towards further learning, employment or career progression.
Based on a study completed around the skills needs arising from the Commonwealth Games, SQA has introduced some new awards and refreshed qualifications in some specific areas.
