Crofting Candidates

The Crofting National Progression Award (NPA) at SCQF level 5 introduces candidates to Crofting on a commercial basis and develops practical, planning and organisation skills.

Candidates are given a wider perspective on how land is used cross Scotland and Estate Maintenance. They will gain practical skills such as mending fences, repairs to paths, minor plumbing and drainage repairs.

Throughout the delivery of the award candidates will have the opportunity to develop their Core Skills in Communication, Numeracy, Working with Others, Problem Solving and Information and Communication Technology.

Qualification structure

The award consists of a total of 10 Units, all of which are required to achieve the award. There are a mixture of single and half credit Units so the overall award consists of 36 SCQF Credit Points (6 SQA Unit Credits) at SCQF Level 5 (Intermediate 2).

There are two 'generic' Units, Countryside Land Use, which provides a wider perspective on how land is used across Scotland and Estate Maintenance: An Introduction which provides candidates with the opportunity to develop and use basic practical skills such as mending fences, repairs to paths and minor plumbing / drainage repairs.

The Enterprise Unit is intended to introduce candidates to the idea of running a croft on a commercial basis and will develop their knowledge and skills in planning and organisation a small scale enterprise.
