Summary of Course content
The primary target group for this Course is school candidates in S3 and above. The Intermediate 2 Course provides a progression route for candidates who have successfully completed the Skills for Work: Health Sector Intermediate 1 Course. The Intermediate 2 Course will build on the skills and knowledge developed in the Intermediate 1 Course and will introduce candidates to a range of more advanced skills.
The Intermediate 2 Course has also been designed to allow suitable candidates to enter directly at this level. The Course may also be suitable for adult returners in a further education environment who are seeking to enhance their employability and vocational skills in the health sector. In this Course it is important that candidates have access to real or simulated health sector environments and visiting industry speakers or visits to people working in the health sector. It is anticipated that the Course will rely upon and build on partnerships between schools, further education colleges, higher education institutions, employers and other training organisations. These partnerships will enable the Course to be delivered in a variety of appropriate learning environments with access to relevant teaching expertise.
The emphasis of this Course is to prepare candidates for working in the health sector and develop employability skills valued by employers. Candidates will develop a range of knowledge and skills required in this vocational area. The Course is designed as an introduction to the health sector at Intermediate 2 level and gives candidates the opportunity to investigate a range of job roles and career opportunities as well as participate in a job interview.
Since the Intermediate 2 Course is designed with progression from Intermediate 1 in mind, the Units of the Intermediate 2 Course develops and expands on content introduced on the Intermediate 1 Course. The Intermediate 2 course covers a broader range of issues and studies these in more depth. Candidates will also develop a wide range of skills, including research and self evaluation skills. Emphasis throughout all Units is on the employability skills and attitudes which will help prepare candidates for the workplace.
