The Advanced Higher qualification in Cantonese develops learners' language skills to a sophisticated level within three broad themes – personal, social and cultural issues; topical and cultural issues; and environmental issues. The expression of opinions and exchanging of ideas are further developed.
Learners consider current affairs from the viewpoint of Cantonese speakers living in China, and have the opportunity of comparing and contrasting issues relevant where the language is spoken and in Britain, and to formulate and express opinions on these. Further options include engaging with literature or a detailed investigation of a subject or a series of linked texts. Learners may also choose to focus on uses of the language in work-related contexts.
The Advanced Higher Cantonese Course is at SCQF level 7.
