Early Education & Childcare Quality Network - September 2008

All Centres should now be in receipt of their invitation letter to the Quality Network events being held in Glasgow on 22 September 2008 and in Edinburgh on 24 September 2008.

Details are avaliable from your SQA Coordinator, Centre Head of Early Education and Childcare or by contacting the Care Scotland helpline on 0845 213 5471.

Ideally delegates should be involved in the day to day provision and delivery of SQA qualifications within their centre.

Places are limited and allocated on a first come basis so please reply early to avoid disappointment

HNC Early Education & Childcare Unit Revisions (G7CX 15)

As Centres will be aware the revised units (F3S3 34, F3S9 24, F3S4 34) have now been added to the above framework.  The  reviewed Units (DF51 34, DF52 34, DF50 34) will remain within the framework to allow for future certification and recognition of the award within internal systems. All candidates currently undertaking these predecessor Units must complete them by 31 July 2010

SVQ Leadership and Management for Care Services level 4 (G8W8 24)

As from today, Tuesday 1 April 2008 the SVQ Leadership and Management for Care Services (LMC) level 4 will be available for centres to deliver. This qualification reflects current practice and legislation; therefore the SVQ LMC will supersede the Registered Manager Award (RMA) in Health and Social Care (G6N6) and the Manager in Residential Childcare Award (G7LM) from 1 April 2008.

As you may be aware the RMA lapsed 31 March 2008 but will remain on our system until 31 March 2012, and the Manager in Residential Childcare Award will remain on our system until 30 June 2011, to allow for certification of candidates already entered for these awards.

Unit specifications, Assessment Strategy and Guidance, and the qualification framework are now avaliable to download.

Please contact your SQA Co-ordinator for information sent to them about launch events for this new qualification.

It has been brought to our attention that the option to use Expert Witness Testimony where no assessor is available has been omitted from the pathway specific Units in the above frameworks.

HND for the Social Services Sector

A meeting was held in SQA's Glasgow offices on Thursday 31 May 2007, prior to the creation of a Qualifications Design Team to take forward the development of this qualification.

The group formulated a diagram of how the HND may sit in relation to current qualifications and job roles in the Social Services sector.

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations' Council (EVOC) 

Training Needs Analyser

This is an online tool for voluntary private and public sector care providers. It has been designed for:

• small organisations with little or no HR support to make a complex area simpler to manage
• all managers with staff learning and development remit.

The tool combines SSSC post requirements, your organisation's requirements and employee information. End analyses identifies qualifications required/in progress/completed plus a range of analyses options. For more information: www.evoc.org.uk.

 
HND for Social Services Sector update

As well as conducting a number of consultation events across the country, we have met with  a large number of representatives from service delivery organisations in the public and independent sectors, regulatory and advisory bodies, and institutes of higher education.

The new qualification has been designed with multiple entry routes and candidates will select whether to follow the HND Childhood Practice or HND Social Service main route through the award, depending on their main workplace experience and career aspirations. Within each main route there will be further opportunities to follow selected paths in the optional part of the award in order to cover specialised aspects relating to particular work demands or academic aspirations.

The unit writing team meets again on 28 June to coordinate and agree final drafts for submission to SQA. They will then be peer reviewed and amended as appropriate. It is anticipated that the units and awards will be presented to SQA for validation in October 2008.
