The Care Commission is the organisation which has statutory responsibility for Inspecting Social Services within Scotland. Their work is driven by the Regulation of Care Scotland Act 2001. The Care Commission have become increasingly concerned that the training provided in relation to the administration of medication is not sufficiently robust or consistent to have an impact on raising the quality of the service to individuals receiving care.
SQA was invited to work with the Care Commission to certificate a qualification which could be used for the purposes of training staff in the delivery of medication within a care setting.
SQA is seeking your views to help establish how we can best meet the needs of the Care sector and I would be grateful if you could complete a short questionnaire. To access the survey please follow the link below.
We would appreciate a response by Friday 12 June 2009.
As you may be aware we are currently about to embark on a review of the PDA Care Services Management (G83V 15). In order to ensure the PDA remains a robust and fit for purpose award that meets the needs of the sector I would be grateful if you could complete the below survey.

This is an online tool for voluntary private and public sector care providers. It has been designed for:
The tool combines SSSC post requirements, your organisation's requirements and employee information. End analyses identifies qualifications required/in progress/completed plus a range of analyses options. For more information: www.evoc.org.uk.
As well as conducting a number of consultation events across the country, we have met with a large number of representatives from service delivery organisations in the public and independent sectors, regulatory and advisory bodies, and institutes of higher education.
The new qualification has been designed with multiple entry routes and candidates will select whether to follow the HND Childhood Practice or HND Social Service main route through the award, depending on their main workplace experience and career aspirations. Within each main route there will be further opportunities to follow selected paths in the optional part of the award in order to cover specialised aspects relating to particular work demands or academic aspirations.
The unit writing team meets again on 28 June to coordinate and agree final drafts for submission to SQA. They will then be peer reviewed and amended as appropriate. It is anticipated that the units and awards will be presented to SQA for validation in October 2008.
If you have any questions or comments you would like to share with the development team, please contact the Care Scotland team.
A blog has been created which we hope will provide an open forum on the HND development and also a means to provide information on it's progress. This can only be successful with the participation of our stakeholders so please have a look at www.hndsocialservices.blogspot.com.
