SQA Accreditation Approval of Qualification Products
Since 1 April 2009, SQA Accreditation has had the remit to approve SVQ Structures, SVQ Assessment Strategies, Core Skills Signposting and SCQF Credit Rating of SVQs. This remit now includes the approval of Scottish Qualification Products which have been funded through the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).
Scottish qualification project outputs will be subject to approval by SQA Accreditation via its Accreditation Co-ordination Group (ACG). This group also accredits qualification submissions from awarding bodies, giving it a strong basis for considering the qualification products developed by SSC/Bs to underpin these qualifications.
SVQ products requiring approval must include:
- SVQ Structures
- SVQ Assessment Strategy
- SVQ Core Skills Signposting
Non SVQ Products requiring approval must include:
- Qualification Structures
- Assessment Strategy/Overarching Principles of Assessment/Regulatory Specification
Supporting Evidence
SSC/Bs should send the following in support of the submission:
- NOS or Units on which the qualifications will be based (if qualification is based on NOS, then the NOS must be approved by UKNP before the qualification structure is submitted to SQA Accreditation for approval)
- If appropriate, support from the originating body for use of imported or tailored NOS/units within the qualification structure
- Support from awarding bodies which confirms the qualification structures, including any proposed pathways and endorsements, can be implemented and whether the awarding body proposes to seek accreditation for the qualification(s)
- Support from awarding bodies for the assessment strategy/assessment principles. This is required where the submission includes new or amended qualification structures, even if the assessment strategy/assessment principles remain unchanged or an overarching assessment strategy is being used
- Project report showing Scottish LMI and engagement with Scottish employers and stakeholders including SQA Approved Awarding Bodies
- Tracking documents which list the changes to previously approved versions.
SQA Accreditation will acknowledge receipt of all submissions, but the SSC/B may be required to liaise with the Accreditation Manager and submit further information.
