SQA hosts energy seminar
We recently demonstrated our continuing commitment and contribution to skills development within the energy sector by hosting a cross-agency seminar.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness of our partnership approach to energy related skills development and qualifications.
Over eighty delegates including curriculum managers, business development managers and senior staff responsible for strategic planning in Scotland’s further education colleges and training companies were joined by representatives from several skills bodies and energy trade federations.
Delegates attended a mixture of presentations and discussions based on our current and future provision of energy related qualifications and support materials with a particular focus on the skills needed now and in the future to support the growing renewable energy sector.
Sharing the platform with us on the day were representatives from the Scottish Government’s Renewable Energy Team, Scotland’s Colleges and speakers from Sector Skills Councils, SummitSkills and Energy and Utility Skills.
Gordon Rodgers, Head of Industry and Business at SQA, said: “We are providing a clear demonstration to our customers that we are working with the right industry and government stakeholders in order to take the lead in providing highly regarded and sought after qualifications in this emerging and highly competitive industry.
“We will utilise our comprehensive portfolio to ensure learners will have access to qualifications that will enhance their skills and allow them to make the most of current and future opportunities in the energy and renewable sectors.”
Commenting on the event, Jim Brown of the Scottish Government’s renewable energy team, said: “SQA has demonstrated a commitment to ensure the skills and training products it offers will give learners the best opportunity to succeed in a highly competitive and demanding industry.”
