Emergency First Aid at Work

Approval to Offer Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) in Scotland
In 2009, SQA Accreditation entered into a regulatory agreement with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which led to SQA Accreditation assuming responsibility for ensuring that those approved to deliver the EFAW qualification in Scotland are meeting the requirements of the HSE Training Standard. First Aid Training Providers who wish to deliver the EFAW qualification in Scotland now have two possible options through which they can gain the appropriate regulatory approval. The options available are
·         Becoming a SQA Approved Awarding Body
Training Providers wishing to apply to become a SQA Approved Awarding Body must demonstrate how their organisation is capable of satisfying the requirements of SQA Accreditation’s Awarding Body Criteria (2007) and also how they are able to deliver the EFAW qualification in line with the HSE Training Standard. It is recommended that any organisation considering this option should contact SQA Accreditation initially in order to discuss any possible application and with a view to establishing likely suitability.
Approved awarding bodies wishing to seek accreditation for this qualification should complete AC2.

·         Becoming an Approved Centre of an SQA Approved Awarding Body
Training Providers can apply for centre approval to deliver EFAW through any SQA Approved Awarding Body that has been accredited to offer the qualification. Training Providers are encouraged to make initial contact with any suitably accredited Awarding Body with a view to initially discussing the application process.
