HND Filmcraft and Animation candidate information
The HND Filmcraft and Animation is aimed at anyone who wishes to embark on a career in the film, computer games and animation industries. You will understand the role of computer technology in filmmaking and animation, and develop an awareness of the creative process.
You will study Graphic Design, 2D/3D Computer Animation, Digital Video/Audio for Artists and Designers, Life Drawing, Audio Visual Design for film which includes analysis of soundtracks and sound design, Film Studies, Technical Direction, Advanced 3D Animation Motion Studies and Character Design.
You will also develop study and research, and critical and evaluative thinking, skills.

There are opportunities to progress into Year 2 or Year 3 of degree programmes. You should check with your centre or the HE establishment before you start your HND.
As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. Examples of formal entry qualifications include:
- Higher in Art and Design (or equivalent)
- GCE ‘A’ levels in appropriate subjects
- Specialisms relevant to HNC and HND Filmcraft and Animation, as shown by appropriate qualifications and supported by a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills.
- Possession of a degree in a suitable discipline, supported by a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills.
Accreditation of prior experiential learning, or other formal qualifications, will be considered on an individual basis by centres. You may be asked to present a portfolio of relevant work.
