HNC Filmcraft and Animation candiate information
The HNC Filmcraft and Animation is aimed at anyone who wishes to embark on a career in the film, computer games and animation industries. You will understand the role of computer technology in filmmaking and animation, and develop an awareness of the creative process.
You will also develop study and research, and critical and evaluative thinking, skills.
Employment and progression opportunities
Possible employment opportunities for holders of the HNC include: Junior/Trainee Animator; Trainee Storyboard Artist; Runner; Junior Illustrator; Junior Modeller; Junior Clean Up Artist.
There are opportunities to progress into Year 2 of degree programmes. You should check with your centre or the HE establishment before you start your HNC.
As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. Examples of formal entry qualifications include:
- Higher in Art and Design (or equivalent)
- GCE ‘A’ levels in appropriate subjects
- Specialisms relevant to HNC and HND Filmcraft and Animation, as shown by appropriate qualifications and supported by a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills.
- Possession of a degree in a suitable discipline, supported by a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills.
Accreditation of prior experiential learning, or other formal qualifications, will be considered on an individual basis by centres. You may be asked to present a portfolio of relevant work.
