Postal verification will only be used in instances where distance is a problem and subject uptake is low. A centre may also wish to offer a Unit on more than one occasion during a year and will require a verification result to allow progress with any subsequent delivery of that Unit.
Postal verification supplements central verification, providing flexibility required by both centres and SQA.
Postal verification can therefore be used for two main reasons - if the qualification is an area which could not justify the organisation of a central event, and where a centre requests verification outwith the timing of an organised central event.
