HNC Poultry Production candidate information
The HNC Poultry Production will give you an understanding not only of production techniques and technologies, but a general knowledge of the scientific and business principles that underpin the industry and of the environmental context in which the sector operates.
It will also give you an understanding of poultry welfare and behaviour.
Employment and progression opportunities
On successful completion of the HNC Poultry Production, you will be able to seek gain employment in: production units; hatchery units; poultry processing; feed manufacture; inspection services; technical support; or quality assurance.
There may be the opportunity to progress to the second year of a degree programme, such as Agriculture. You are advised to check entry requirements with the appropriate college/university admissions departments.
As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. Examples of formal entry qualifications include:
- five Standard Grades (or equivalent) at SCQF level 4, including evidence of Numeracy and Communication Skills at SCQF level 4
- two Higher grades (SCQF Level 6) or one A Level (SCQF level 7)
Passes in appropriate SQA National Units will be accepted for entry to the programme, as will appropriate Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) qualifications.
If you have suitable relevant work-based learning and experience but no relevant formal qualifications, you may be accepted provided that the centre is satisfied that you are able to cope with the course and are likely to benefit.
