Skills Competitor of the Year

This Award is sponsored by the Scottish Government on behalf of UK Skills and recognises SQA candidates who have developed their vocational qualifications to competitive levels, locally or nationally.

Now working towards an SVQ3 and HNC in Advanced Roof Slating, Tiling and Cement Work, winner Gary Riley excelled at both traditional skills and modern practices and showed an understanding of how knowledge and theory underpin real skills. Gary’s future ambitions are to run his own roofing company and to represent the UK at the World Skills competition in 2011.
