Fellowship Award

The Fellowship of SQA is the highest award of SQA awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to education and training in Scotland.

The Fellowship was presented by Graham Houston, SQA’s Chairman to Hugh McCafferty, Apprenticeships Manager for ConstructionSkills.

Hugh was educated at St Patrick’s High School for Boys, Dumbarton. 

He joined the construction industry, with the family business for 20 years.  He studied Management and Leadership at the University of Westminster and HNC Construction Management at Glasgow Metropolitan College.

Hugh joined ConstructionSkills in 1987 as a Training Adviser. He is now responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Apprenticeship and Advisory Services for the Board.

During his time with ConstructionSkills, Hugh has sat on a number of college advisory committees, and has also been a Board member of South Lanarkshire College for 12 years, holding the post of Deputy Chairman.

He is also a member of the construction industry’s apprenticeship training council SBATC.

He is a long-standing member of SQA’s Advisory Council, and has also been a member of the Qualifications Committee for the past three years.
